Media Blast Cabinet

I had bought a small media blasting cabinet from Harbor Freight.

This cabinet was on sale for $69.95, normally $99.99 so I said what the heck and bought it. It was built fairly well and worked fine but it was far too small for what I wanted to do. Even small parts that where around 1 foot long was hard to manipulate in this small cabinet. I found that I could not get the ends of the item blasted well because of the depth of the cabinet.

So I decided to fabricate my own homemade sandblast or mediablast cabinet myself to my own specifications.

I needed to decide on the general size and shapeof the cabinet. To do this I measured all the things that I might want to put in it. The largest of them was a 1965 Mustang hood. I also made sure that the dimensions I used to design my cabinet would allow my to put entire door shells from any car or truck into it. I measured 1967 Dodge truck doors and my 1965 Mustang doors, I also measured the Mustangs fenders too. For each of these things to fit the cabinet would have to be 4 foot high by 6 feet wide and 2.5 feet deep.

Some design features I wanted in this cabinet is to have the end opposite the door to have a view window and pair of gloves. My reasoning for this is that if I put in the door shell to my 1965 Mustang into this cabinet I would like to be able to get at the ends of the door and blast them clean also. I am going to build this cabinet with 2 pairs of gloves in the front instead of one pair. This way I could have 2 people working (3 if someone was on the end) at the same time or I can simply go to the next set of gloves to work the other section if its to large to move.

Here is what my media blast cabinet looks like at the moment.
